Emily Zuzik
Originally from Southwestern Pennsylvania, this Brooklyn-based
singer-songwriter offers
a unique blend of acoustic blues and urban groove. Emily has described
her musical style
as "Funky Diva, Soulful Rock". Her powerful and many times sultry vocals
lift you to
a sound experience you'll soon not forget. Time Out NY raves, "Emily
Zuzik's voice
ranges from a sweet and alluring croon to a low growl that would charm
even the
most world-weary."
She has performed both solo and with many bands including acoustic roots
rockers
Sexfresh, Babes with Beats, and the Burning Man phenomenon Funkmobile
just to
mention a few. Emily and Sexfresh co-founder Ben Ratliff continue to
collaborate
on different conceptual, production and performance projects. The duo,
along with
Sexfresh guitarist Chris Mulhauser, formed Mother's Discontent Music,
an artist
collective and independent music label. Emily has appeared as a background
singer
for Pi and Jeff Winter in the NYC area, and she has begun producing
other local
independent artists in her studio.
Emiliy's debut solo album, The
Way It's Got to Be, was released
in February 2003. The CD is most succinctly described as full of
strong vocal lines, beefy rhythms and melodies that will keep you
tapping your feet for hours after the music ends. The overall
tone of the disc is upbeat and refreshing
